CMS Issues Guidance to Providers to Respond to 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic; Suspends Non-Emergent Survey Operations Unrelated to Infection Control

CMS has issued a variety of extraordinary pieces of guidance to the provider community to address the public health crisis of COVID-19. 

CMS suspended non-emergent survey operations unrelated to infection control so that nursing homes, hospitals and other providers can focus on public safety threats and issued guidance to State Survey Agencies and accrediting bodies to this effect.

CMS issued a call to action to hospital emergency departments to screen patients for COVID-19.

CMS issued guidance to State Survey Agencies regarding infection control enhancements for hospices and nursing homes which includes updates to visitation policies in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

CMS issued additional guidance to State Survey Agencies regarding interacting with patients receiving care from home health agencies and dialysis facilities in light of this health crisis.
